Today we are sharing our favorite white paints that can take your room from blah to ah-mazing. We hope your ready to finalize the perfect white paint for your home.
Before we get to the best white paint shades, there are a few key things to consider.
Here are some key factors to keep in mind when selecting the best white paint for your home. We’d love to discuss these factors with you.
STEPS to take to FIND the RIGHT PAINT color
Before you commit to any paint color, there are a few things you should do first.
- Order a quart of paint and/or a sample sticker. We love Samplize for this.
- Paint out a large swatch of white paint on your wall. Alternatively, place your sticker on the wall. Leave it up for at least a week. This will allow you to see the shade in your space.
- Add a swatch or sticker in a dark area with a shadow. Place it next to a window or door with lots of light. This way, you can see how it works in different areas of your home.
- Let the paint sit anywhere from 3 to 7 days. This lets you really get a sense of how it looks and feels in your space.
- Look at it in the morning, afternoon, and night to see how the color changes. Examine it with wood finishes, furniture, and tile. Check it with flooring and anything else in your space that will impact its appearance. It is important to sit with the color. View it in your space with your belongings. Do this before you commit to the final paint color. This will literally save you thousands of dollars.
THINGS to WATCH OUT for when selecting the right Paint color
Once you have a shade you really like, double check a couple things. This will make 100% sure it’s right for your space.
- Is the lighting you’re looking at the paint under the lighting you’ll be keeping long term? The lighting in your home can influence the tones of your paint, so keep that in mind.
- You should know the best color temperature lighting is between 2700K and 3000K. This is important if you have LED lighting in your home. This range produces a warm, inviting glow. It’s ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas. Although, I personally love 3500k-4000k lighting as its slightly cooler and mimics natural sunlight more. If you don’t want this high of a temperature in whole home, shoot for Kitchens and workspace(s).
- We also love all our lighting to be placed on dimmers. Everyone in the house likes different levels of lighting throughout the day. Having dimmers throughout the whole house allows for maximum flexibility.
- The exposure of natural sunlight will affect how warm or cool a white paint color looks. It is important to notice the paint color in the setting of your own home. This observation ensures the color will enhance your home.
- Lighting can dramatically change the way paint colors look in your home. It is essential that you look at the paint in your own home, and not just at the store.
WHY is it so HARD TO FIND a WHITE PAINT?
White paints have undertones that will impact how it looks within a space. Undertones of the paint can be gray, beige, blue, red, yellow, or green. These undertones affect how the color looks once it dries on your walls. This is important. The paint color can look drastically different from the swatch to when it dries on your walls.
Warm Tones: Red, Orange, + Yellow
Cool Tones: Green, Blue, Violet
Warm tones create an inviting atmosphere, while cool tones offer a crisp and clean appearance. It can be challenging to find the undertones in a paint color just by looking at a sample chip. That is why it’s so essential to order sample jars or buy the stickers from Samplize.
