A playful, personal bedroom designed
to grow alongside her
A toddler's room shouldn't feel like a nursery she's outgrowing, or a teenager's room she hasn't grown into yet. It should feel like exactly where she is right now — and stretch a little further with her.
Our client came to us with a bedroom that already had good bones. This was a furnishing and styling project from start to finish: layering color, texture, and personality into an existing room until it felt complete — playful without feeling chaotic, colorful without feeling overstimulating, and personal enough that it could only belong to her.
We started with the bed, the visual anchor of any bedroom. A rich walnut headboard brings warmth and a more grown-up sensibility — designed to last well beyond the toddler years. Layered on top, a sage-blue velvet duvet softens the wood tone and gives the room its calming base color. A blush corduroy lumbar pillow runs the full width of the headboard, the perfect backdrop for a beloved doll who has clearly claimed her spot as the room's official welcoming committee.
If there's one decision that defines this room, it's the window. We worked with TWOPAGES Curtains to build a layered treatment. An unapologetic mustard pinch-pleat drapery layers over a soft motorized white Roman shade, reading as sophisticated rather than juvenile, and becoming the color anchor that ties every other element together.
Around the corner, an open shelving system creates a dedicated reading and play zone. Deep charcoal shelves hold books, a child-sized piano, and labeled bins to keep small toys contained. Below, a row of drawers with sweet hot-air-balloon pulls adds deeper storage.
The desk, shelving, and drawer wall are all built on the Elfa system — a track-based, modular setup that can be reconfigured entirely as she grows, without patching a single hole or replacing a single piece.
Two pastel dinosaur-shaped stools tuck under the desk, and a soft reading chair nearby — draped with a beloved astronaut-print quilt — rounds out a cozy corner that gets used every single day. Underfoot, a hand-knotted rainbow rug ties the entire color story together, pulling from the mustard drapery, sage bedding, and blush accents without ever feeling matchy.
