Freestanding Tubs That Shape the Whole Room

Nothing anchors a bathroom like a freestanding tub. Structured and architectural or soft and sculptural, the right tub creates more than a place to unwind; it sets the tone for the whole room.

Where form, function and a long soak come together

These two shapes, one rectangular and one oval, suit very different bathrooms but share the same goal: a calm, spa-like retreat at home.

Pro tip: Leave at least 4 to 6 inches around a freestanding tub for cleaning, and more if you want it to read as a centerpiece.

The tubs, and why we love them

01 · ARCHITECTURAL

Rectangular freestanding tub

How it looks & feels: Crisp, structured lines with a modern presence.

The problem it solves: Anchors a contemporary bath with clean geometry.

Where it belongs: Under a window or centered on a wall.

02 · SCULPTURAL

Oval freestanding tub

How it looks & feels: Soft, sculptural curves made for a long soak.

The problem it solves: Softens a room of tile and hard edges.

Where it belongs: The center of a primary bath.

Frequently asked questions

How much space do you need for a freestanding tub?

Plan at least 4 to 6 inches on each side for cleaning, plus room for the filler. A typical tub is 60 to 67 inches long.

Are freestanding tubs comfortable?

Most have a sloped back for lounging; double-ended oval tubs let you recline from either side.
