A note on availability: every piece in our boards was hand-selected when we designed the look, and retailers refresh their collections often. If an exact item has sold out or been discontinued, we’ve linked the closest match we could find, chosen with the same eye for shape, finish and feel.

Warm neutrals, layered textures

At ASR Design Studio, we believe neutral is about warmth, depth and intentional layering. This space mixes linen, wood and brass so it feels warm without heaviness: a lived-in, layered look that is both modern and timeless.

Pro tip: Mixing materials like linen, wood and brass is the key to depth in a neutral space. Warm metals, natural finishes and soft upholstery play beautifully together.

The pieces, and why we chose them

01 · THE FOUNDATION

Plush neutral sectional

How it looks & feels: Simple, soft and deep-seated, made for everyday lounging and movie nights.

The problem it solves: Seats the whole family and gives the layered textures a calm base.

Where it belongs: Along the longest wall or floating to define the room.

02 · THE MOVEMENT

Linen swivel chairs

How it looks & feels: Natural linen texture on a soft, rounded swivel that feels relaxed and airy.

The problem it solves: Adds movement and seating while keeping the neutral palette cohesive.

Where it belongs: As a pair, facing the sectional across the room.

03 · THE SOUL

Artisan-crafted coffee table

How it looks & feels: Natural imperfections give it a one-of-a-kind, handmade character.

The problem it solves: Adds soul and dimension so the room never feels showroom-perfect.

Where it belongs: Centered on the rug, 16 to 18 inches from the sectional.

04 · THE WARMTH

Wood-textured side tables

How it looks & feels: Organic wood texture that echoes the earthy, natural vibe of the room.

The problem it solves: Gives each end of the sectional a warm, practical landing spot.

Where it belongs: At the ends of the sectional, at arm height.

05 · THE SHINE

Compact brass accent table

How it looks & feels: A small, polished brass piece that catches the light beautifully.

The problem it solves: Adds a touch of shine and a drink spot without taking up floor space.

Where it belongs: Tucked beside the swivel chairs.

06 · THE FOCAL POINT

Brass ceiling fixture

How it looks & feels: Refined brass with a bit of sculptural drama overhead.

The problem it solves: Balances the room visually and casts a warm, flattering glow.

Where it belongs: Centered over the coffee table and seating.

07 · THE GROUNDING

Statement area rug

How it looks & feels: Warm color and pattern underfoot that ties the whole room together.

The problem it solves: Defines the seating zone and keeps a neutral room from feeling flat.

Where it belongs: Big enough for every seat’s front legs to rest on it.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a neutral living room feel warm?

Layer natural materials like linen, wood and wool, add a warm metal such as brass, and choose a rug with some color or pattern. Varying textures matters more than adding color.

What metal finish works best with neutrals?

Brass and bronze add warmth to creams and taupes, while black adds crisp contrast. Choose one or two finishes and repeat them around the room.
