At Home with Ariel: Flooring Installation

Gutting and renovating an entire home—while also living in it!—It’s not for the faint of heart. But our founder, Ariel, and her husband Robert aren’t typical homeowners. This duo is experienced in the art of renovation and interior design. They decided to take a leap and complete a total refresh after moving into their San Diego home in 2019.

After assembling their A-team (the parents) and finishing up the guest bathroom, it was time to tackle one of their biggest project yet: flooring throughout the entire house. They decided on Shaw LVT flooring, and the pair dove into cutting and installing the floors themselves, starting in their master bedroom. Using a table saw and a miter saw to cut the floors and to fit corners, they slowly but surely installed this super durable, stylish and completely waterproof vinyl flooring. It even delivers the look of real wood.

Over the course of the next week, they made slow and steady progress throughout their home. They painstakingly cut and measured all of the transitions for a smooth and seamless look from room to room. They installed the floating flooring for a flawless and professional-quality finish. Once each and every floorboard had been installed, shiplap baseboards were added as a finishing touch that gave the home a modern-yet-timeless feel.

Once complete, the wood-look floor created the perfect blank canvas for each room. The light colored wood is the ideal shade to complement both light and dark paint colors. The natural, rustic look ensures that it will beautifully mask any wear and tear that may come with age. Plus, it effortlessly blends in with Ariel’s coastal California design aesthetic, allowing them to bring their creative design vision to life.

Once the flooring was firmly under foot, the duo set their sights on their next project: improving their home’s storage. Read more in our At Home with Ariel series to discover how they custom-designed closets for both their master and guest bedrooms to maximize their space.
