The Best White Paints for 2023 & Beyond
If we have one mission in today’s post, it’s this: Get you to fall in love with white paints. Here’s the deal: white paint doesn’t have to be boring. We know that when you think of white paint, you often think of a cookie-cutter room that doesn’t stand out at all. But when you pair the right white paint with a well-designed room, magic can happen.
So we want to share our favorite white paints that can take your room from blah to ah-mazing.
Before we get to the shades
There are a few things to consider when buying a white paint.
STEPS TO TAKE TO FIND THE RIGHT PAINT
Before you commit to a certain paint, there are a few things you should do first.
Order a quart of paint and/or a sample sticker. We love Samplize for this.
Paint out a large swatch on your wall or place your sticker. This will allow you to see the shade in your space. Make sure to add a swatch or sticker in a dark area with a shadow and next to a window or door with lots of light so you can see how it works in different areas of your home.
Sit with the paint anywhere from 3-7 days so you can really get a sense of how it looks and feels in your space. Look at it in the morning, afternoon, and night to see how the color changes. Look at it with wood finishes, furniture, tile, flooring, and anything else in your space that might make an impact on how it looks.
Things to watch out for
Once you have a shade you really like, double check a couple things to make 100% sure it’s right for your space.
Is the lighting you’re looking at the paint under the lighting you’ll be keeping long term? The lighting in your home can influence the tones of your paint, so keep that in mind.
The exposure of natural sunlight will affect how warm or cool a white paint color looks. If you’re testing your paint in the winter, know that it may look quite different in the bright summer.
Why it’s so hard to find a white paint
A white will typically have an undertone, impacting how it will look in a space. It may have a grey undertone, which will feel cooler, or it may have a beige undertone, which will feel warmer in a space. It may also have bluish, reddish, yellowish, or even greenish undertones. Keep an eye out for these by following the steps above.
Phew, okay, I think we’re ready to get into the tones! Here are our favorite white paints.
