5 Ways to Make Your Home Look More Expensive

We heard you want to make your house look more expensive without the hefty price tag?

We’ve got you covered! Here are 5 ways to make your home look luxe without completely swapping your signature style or having to spend loads of money.

A FEW OF OUR SELECTIONS

NUMBER ONE: wood details

We’re not talking wood paneling from the 70s. Instead, we mean modern and upscale wood pieces like teak side tables or reclaimed wood accessories.

Wood details, whether on your furniture or your bookends, enhance your space and help it to look more put together. The natural textures create a quality, authentic look and feel.

They also allow you to play with some grand patterns, textures, and colors without looking gaudy. They’ll provide a neutral backdrop rather than clash.

NUMBER TWO: ACCENT COLORS

To accompany your wood tones, an accent color or two (as seen above in the form of an accent wall and some bright accessories) will give your space a pop of color. This helps to create visual interest and depth, allowing the space to look well thought out and collected. Think of these pops of color like the gems and jewels in an expensive piece of jewelry. They offer added interest, but you don’t want to go overboard by adding too many to an outfit.

NUMBER THREE: LARGE ARTWORK

Large pieces of artwork will give the space an impressive, sophisticated feel. Rather than using smaller pieces of artwork, which can look messy (and even tacky!) these larger pieces will offer a focal point and make a big statement in your space.

number four: declutter your space

Perhaps the most important — and affordable — way to make your space look and feel luxurious is to declutter. You don’t have to go full Marie Kondo (although you certainly can!) but having less clutter around the space will allow it to feel serene.

Here’s a quick decluttering checklist for you:

  • Get rid of things you no longer like or need (including those projects that you know you’ll never get to — no judgement, we all have them)

  • Hide cords and other electronics in your entertainment area or other storage pieces

  • Use stylish baskets, bins, or other containers to keep things handy but hidden

  • When possible, stash things away in cabinets to keep them within the space but not within sight (psst…the cabinets below are used for everything from entertaining essentials to children’s toys!)

NUMBER FIVE: DRAPERY

Hanging curtains in your space will give it a plush touch that goes a long way in making your home look more expensive. Play with textures, patterns, or those accent colors we talked about before!

Curtains also add to a layered look, which is yet another way to bring a luxe feel to your home.

OH, AND ONE LAST THING: GOOD SCENTS

Your home shouldn’t just look good — it should smell good. Having nice scents wafting throughout your home adds that little lavish touch. A home that smells good feels posh. A home that doesn’t smell good, well….doesn’t.
