Unsolved Mysteries
You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers
Don’t be shy – we’re a helpful (and friendly!) bunch here at ASR. If your question hasn’t been answered, just reach out to us here and we’ll reply ASAP.

The best of the best! We’ve teamed up with House to Home and a carefully curated selection of trusted builders and contractors in and around San Diego to form the ultimate design and build collabs.
We provide detailed plans that can easily be handed over to a subcontractor for a turnkey design AND construction process that feels easy for the contractor and the client, too. And here at ASR, easy is definitely our goal!
Have your own contractor? No prob, we are happy to work with your dreamy contractor.
-
We bust a move with down-to-earth dreamers, renovators and nesters ready to create effortlessly inviting spaces they’re truly proud to call home.
Got a full plate and a busy schedule? We know allll about it. Our clients lead very full lives, too. They want their home to work for their lifestyle (not the other way around!) And they need a design + build team who gets it and can bring their vision to life … even when they don’t quite know what that vision is yet.
Which is EXACTLY what we do: We transform your space so you can get back to the priorities of everyday giggling, cuddling, playing, cooking, creating, sharing and living.
-
Yay! We can’t wait to hear more about you, your space, and how we can make it feel like home. Your first step will be to schedule in your Design Therapy Sesh with us.
The Design Therapy Sesh is a free 30-minute, no-strings attached call (via phone or Zoom) where we’ll connect, chat and collect the details of your project. We’ll talk timelines, budgets and then walk you through our process so you know exactly what to expect when you work with us.
Once we’ve agreed we’re a good fit, we’ll book in an official design consultation (where we meet in-person to see your space!) to get your project started. Speaking of which …
-
The design consultation is our chance to visit your space (and treat you by bringing a coffee, tea or hot choccy along with us!)
We’ll soak up the atmosphere, chat, and get a feel for your project so we can fully understand the scope. From the design highlights you’re dreaming of through to the stuff that annoys you about your current space, we want all the big and little details. And if you don’t know them just yet? Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through how to identify your design goals.
Afterwards, we’ll head back to the ASR studio to get super excited about your project and prepare a design fee proposal for you to consider. Your proposal will depend on the level of design and number of selections appropriate for your project.
-
EVERYTHING … including the kitchen sink (if that’s your dream!) We like to keep things uncomplicated, so our design fee will include everything you need to make your dream space a reality.
This includes:
Our time to measure, create scale drawings, make the necessary selections and provide 3D drawings and renderings. Aka the fun bits where we get to share our design vision with you!
Concept construction drawings. These documents capture the details necessary to bring your space to life and include the site plan, floor plans, section drawings, interior elevations, mechanical, decorative electrical and plumbing drawings, and more.
Sourcing all the magical items that will turn your house into a home
Detailed Budgets and Presentation
If you are working with your own contractor, we will prepare coordinating material spreadsheets.
If your project is local, we’ll also include one on-site pre-construction walkthrough with your contractor.
-
We’d love to! Once you’re officially a member of the ASR gang, we’ll send you our Top-Secret Design Questionnaire. This questionnaire will dig deep and help us understand your design preferences and functional needs (’cause you really CAN have children and nice things! We promise.)
And we’ll want to know everything. How do you use the key spaces within your home? What’s your least fave space and why? Does anyone have allergies? How much storage is enough storage? Have you always wanted to integrate bold color into your home, but has it always felt a little scary doing it alone? Everything is relevant! We’ll also ask for inspiration images (get your Pinterest board ready!) and share inspiration images to make sure we’re aligned on the direction of your space. Once we’ve nailed your vision and have memorized your pain points and preferences, we’ll be ready to kickstart the behind-the-scenes design process!
-
Ooh, we’re so glad you asked! After your consultation, our team will prepare a detailed design presentation for you. But don’t worry, this isn’t some boring PowerPoint presentation! This is the fun part.
We’ll spoil you with scaled floor plans, furniture layouts and renderings when appropriate, as well as … drum roll, please … samples you can see, touch and feel! This is super helpful for making selections, but also lets you start to visualize your space. We want you to see what your home can be. And we don’t like surprises, so every detail is included in this presentation. We’ll talk about cabinet design, tile layout and even what you need to do to get ready for the build to begin. It’s all about delivering the finished product and that’s what makes the (sometimes messy) middle worthwhile!
-
Your resident designers: Aka us! We’ll take on the stress of wading through millions of furnishing choices, so you don’t have to (don’t fret – we love every second of it! This is what we live for!) And you can relax knowing that we’re using our extensive knowledge of furniture and the expertise of our vendors to select the best pieces for your style and space.
We’ll take into account everything you’ve shared with us during the consultation, as well as the responses in your questionnaire, and work with the highest quality trade-exclusive, wholesale vendors to source and secure your furnishings at the best prices. We can also have custom pieces crafted just for you, depending on your needs.
And while you may not get the opportunity to see selections beforehand, we’ll share detailed photos so you can get a feel for how your furniture will look and function.
-
Again, that’s us! Uh-huh, we really want to make this journey easy for you. Our team will manage the ordering and fulfillment process for the full scope of the project, including furniture, lighting, hardware, and anything else we may need. We’re all about efficiency and quality, which is why we only work with a trusted network of vendors so we can streamline ordering, tracking, and installation.
As for the construction materials, your contractor will be in charge of ordering any doors, windows, or other materials needed to bring your project to life.
-
Absolutely. Hungry lions couldn’t keep us away! Our team – and your design gang – includes a lead designer and a design coordinator who will be utterly obsessed with your project. Their job is to stay on top of things with regular site visits so they can oversee progress, anticipate risks, communicate red flags, expedite decision making, and help resolve any potential issues.
-
Heck yes! Don’t worry, we aren’t going to deliver your furnishings and leave you to sort through and style it all yourself. We’ve got you! We use a receiving warehouse to collect all your furniture and keep it safe, then we’ll install it in your home after construction is complete. We’ll also assemble any furniture and take away the recycling and garbage once we’re done. Once the furniture is in place, our team will take your space to the next level with accessories that we know you will love. You can decide to keep them all or give back a few – it’s up to you! Depending on the size of your project, this process can take anywhere from one to seven days, but we’ll communicate what’s happening at every stage.
-
We use an easy online system called Ivy to track everything from proposals through to invoices and payments. You can view your account and browse the invoices and payments at any time. Retainers are collected up front before any work starts and you’ll be sent monthly invoices once all the funds have been allocated.
-
We loveee tech … especially when it’s super user-friendly! Which is why we’ve set up our projects in an online platform called Basecamp. From this platform (which you can access online 24/7!), we can communicate updates, share ideas and stay connected. If your lead designer isn’t available, we have multiple team members plugged in and ready to respond to your questions or concerns in real-time. You may also hear from our owner and principal designer as she keeps tabs on each and every project.
Here’s what else we’ll do in Basecamp:
Give project updates
Share photos
Make note of important dates
Stores important documentation
Keep everyone organized and on schedule
Provide easy access to your investment spreadsheet
Share design presentations
Organize and set timelines
Keep track of meeting notes
