We’re ASR Design Studio, your residential design team, and we are here to create spaces that you’ll fall in love with.

Ever since the pandemic, we’ve seen a huge increase in home design and house design. The main reason is that everyone has shifted to working from home or needing a workplace home design. Our work and home lives have slowly blended, and we’re here for it. For those who work from home, it’s so important to have a space where you can be productive but also match the overall aesthetic of your home. Today, our team has put together all of our tips on incorporating stylish interior design into your home workplace.

Why Is It Important To Have A Stylish Home Workplace?

Ok, but before we dive head first into the design and get ahead of ourselves, we have to establish why it’s so important to have a workplace that you actually enjoy working in.

Spark Inspiration

If you work in a creative industry like we do, then girlfriend, you’ll understand how important it is to have inspiration throughout your work day. No matter if you work from home or in a shared space, there is plenty that you can do to keep the creative juices flowing.

Increase Productivity

Let’s talk about productivity. This is something super important that we talk to clients about when creating a home office or workspace. Oftentimes, we hear that family members will come in and out, disrupting workflow, or people will stop during their workday to complete household tasks just because they can see it out of the corner of their eye. While we totally get that working from home has its perks, your workplace still needs to be clean and productive.

Understanding Interior Design Styles

Now that we know why having a stylish work environment in your home is important, we can get right into the different types of design styles and how to choose one that you’ll love.

Overview of Interior Design Styles

What really are interior design styles? It’s something you might have heard of but not really understood what they actually are and what they are important. Interior design styles refer to characteristics that furniture and styling pieces hold. This can be anything from color or texture. Usually, interior design styles reference an era in time and take inspiration from this. Interior design styles tend to blend into one another, and because of this, it can often be confusing to decide where to start. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Our favorite and Popular Interior Design Styles

When we’re creating a home design for one of our lovely clients, we always create a home design that’s best reflective of them. However, to keep the design cohesive, we have to take inspiration from some of our favorite and most popular interior design styles. It also makes the process of picking and choosing everything a thousand times easier. We’ve listed five of our favorites below.

Mid-century modern

If you’ve ever seen any of our past projects, you’ll know we are big fans of mid-century modern. This interior design style takes a huge amount of inspiration and was born in the 40s and 60s. Mid-century modern is all about using clean lines, along with blending in organic geometric shapes. The two blend beautifully together, and with this style in particular, you can really have some fun with it.

Scandi

Where are our fall girlies at? If you’re a fan of fall, natural elements and anything cozy, then Scandi is going to be for you. Scandi really emphasizes wood, wool and bringing the outside in. Along with this, it also works best when you incorporate natural light, which is a huge bonus for designing a stylish workplace.

Contemporary

Ok, if you’re in love with the trends, then contemporary is going to be for you. Contemporary is all about pulling in texture but in a very considered way. With a contemporary home design, you’ll often see a lot of negative space, and this is done with purpose. For a modern house, contemporary is a great interior design from which to draw inspiration.

Minimalism

The name of minimalism really speaks for itself. A minimalist design style is all about less is more. But! This doesn’t mean leaving your home office bare, oh no. Minimalism refers to using as little as possible within a space but still having everything that you need to function fully.

Modern Coastal

Now, we may be a little biased, but we may have left the best till last. Modern Coastal is a much more modern and contemporary take on a beach holiday home. The sophisticated elements come in with materials and textures like wood, linen, cotton and glass. When we bring in these kinds of elements, we get a calming and airy space, perfect for modern home design.

How to Choose the Right Interior Design Style for Your Home Workspace

Now that you have an idea of what interior design styles are, you can start to figure out your own. When you are looking at designing a space or working with a designer, this is something that we drill down on to get right. While you certainly don’t have to stay within the lines all the time, having a clear interior design style will make everything look much more cohesive and purposeful.

What you also have to remember here is that it can take some time to find a style that you truly love. As much as we all want a dream home office and home interior, take your time. Interior home design is something that you need to live with, so it has to be something that you love.

Take inspiration from what you already have.

Now, as much as we love a shop or stroll through a furniture store, shop your home instead. Yes, you read that correctly. Take inspiration from what is already within your home. When you really focus on what furniture pieces you have, you might find that you already have a style.

Get on Pinterest

Now, if your furniture isn’t doing it for you, your next step would be to hop on Pinterest. Yes, girlfriend, this means you can set up with a bubbly and scroll. Pinterest is perfect for getting inspiration and actually finding what you like.

When you’re looking through Pinterest, save what catches your eye and begin to create a mood board. A mood board is essentially the look and feel that you’re going for. When we work with clients, this is something we do in the early stages of our design, and it’s our visual cue to make sure everyone is on the same page.

How to Implement Stylish Workplaces within Interior Design Styles

Alright, you’ve picked your interior design style, you’ve created a mood board, and maybe you’ve even bought a few styling items. Now it’s time actually to style and create the home office of your dreams.

Start with a blank canvas.

Depending on which room you end up choosing for your stylish workplace, start with a blank canvas. This means pulling everything out of your room, giving it a good cleaning, and starting fresh. Take your time to really consider everything. Do the walls need a fresh coat of paint? Do you want to include any wall decor? Why not add a rug to warm up the space? When you consider all of these elements, you can start to build upon each.

Think about more than your desk.

Ok, we totally get that your office is for working and being productive, but when you are looking at interior design in San Diego, it’s more than just your desk. Your home office should be a place that’s enjoyable to be in, not something that’s boring and dull. Add in those personal touches with some artwork that you love and even family photos. Yes, your office still needs to function, but if you spend eight hours a day there, you have to enjoy it.
